Educational Forum at AUST: Bridging the theory and practice

College of Education and Basic Sciences at Ajman University of Science & Technology organized a Forum titled, “Effectiveness of teaching practice: theory and practice” the forum opened under the aegis of Dr. Ahmed Ankit, Assistant of President for external relations.

It aims at shedding light on the training field and its role in reducing the gap between the theoretical knowledge of the students and the demanding labor market they would be working in. The opening of the forum was attended by Dr. Basheer Shehadeh, Assistant to President for follow-up and development, Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Gherfal, Dean, College of Education & Basic Sciences along with fellow College Deans.

Dr. Ahmed Ankit extended a warm welcome to the participants and reiterated the immense support enjoyed by higher educational institutions in UAE by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE and fellow Rulers of the Emirates who always stress on the importance of Education.  It is the basis of all development and prosperity in UAE. He stressed that, “Ajman University has evolved and flourished under the patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi,  Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. Education is the foundation of human development and development of teachers is to develop all aspects of ones life.

Dr. Ibrahim Gherfal, Dean, College of Education and Basic Sciences welcomed the participants and expressed the main goal of the forum which was to highlight the role of training programs in advancing the teaching career whilst equipping the teachers with the apt skill-set to deliver their role as educators.

The transition from the theory to the practical classroom and environment is based upon the teacher’s preparations, skills and adaptability to the new environment. Training before embarking onto the career path hones the skill set and increases the effectiveness of the teaching methods. The interaction experienced before provides the simulation of reality and ensures the teachers are in familiar territories, when teaching in schools and educational institutes.

Various workshops were also presented on the sidelines of the Forum, they were presented by Faculty members to the attending students. They provided a comprehensive coverage on the needs of the educational career and charted out strategies to integrate the graduating teacher into the educational system.

The workshops dealt with several topics, such as the analysis of the problems of human performance, presented by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Gherfal. Education and differentiation, presented by Dr. Sami Alqtauna. Learning difficulties, presented by Dr. Rasha Mohamed Abdullah. Dr Randa Abdo dealt with creative thinking while Ms. Basma Tharwat explained the Education Smartphones.

The event concluded with an honoring ceremony for student’s excellence in training and practical education along with the organizing committee comprising of the faculty members who organized and presented the forum.
